This wonderful fifteen square mile, semi-rural to rural upper end community is located on Highway 24 between Berkeley and Walnut Creek. It first became a community as a Mexican Land Grant called Rancho Acalanus and is known for having one of the Pony Express stops. It was then called Acalanus. The new postmaster Benjamin Shreve changed the name to La Fayette and it was changed to the new spelling Lafayette in 1932.
With a population of approximately 25,000 living in some 10,000 homes nestled in amongst the trees on hillsides, Lafayette can boast a very high lifestyle with top rated schools, low crime rate and a true small town atmosphere, mild climate and clean air. It’s a great place to live with every size and many wonderful homes.
